Three days before the function date, the Kavadi is kept for initial pooja. The Kavadi is taken by Kavadi Murugan and the rituals are done by a person known as Pandaram. So each and every Kavadi has a Kavadi Murugan and a Kavadi Pandaram. Some devotees take Vel Kavadi which a vel is pinned in the chin of the devotee. Some other Kavadi's are Paal kavadi , Sharpa Kavadi (Snake Kavadi), Surya Kavadi, Parakum Kavadi, Ther Kavadi and so on. Once the Kavadi is kept for Pooja , the Kavadi Murugan wants to stay in the temple for the next three days with the traditional dress Vesti and a towel. On the third day, the Kavadi is tied with two small bowels known as Kalasam. This Kalasam is filled with a special oil which consists of Cold-pressed gingelly along with palm sugar etc. On these days too these oil is manufactured by a traditional way ( with Cow) by Eraniel Checkala street people.
