Railway Track Doubling of the of 86.56-km Thiruvananthapuram Central- Nagercoil Junction- Kanniyakumari rail line begin on January 23 with Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain laying the stone for the same. This section was under Southern Railway which being a part of Indian Railways. Due to Single track & traffic signal The Southern Railway only operates only few trains to Chennai, Tirichy, Madurai and Banglore. But Railway Passengers from Eraniel and around Kanyakumari District request the Railway Board to operate more train to the desired location. After a long time the Railway department has allocated fund to stretch the railway lane, doubling the track and electrifying.

The alignment has been finalised from Eraniel to Nagercoil- Kanyakumari. The work is being taken up with March 2022 as target. Work for bridges and earthwork on the 5.5-km Nagercoil- Kanniyakumari section has been awarded. Railways had land in the 24 km Eraniel-Nagercoil section. Bids could be floated for works in the 47-km Eraniel-Thiruvananthapuram Central corridor only after Tamil Nadu and Kerala handed over land.

Now the sand has been dumped into deep side for the stretch from Eraniel Railway Station to Eraniel Konam railway bridge. This work was in full swing with large amount of machinery and trucks. By dumping sand, the level of the land has been increased and now its upto the old railway track near Eraniel Konam Railway bridge. On the other side, they have to dump the sand from Eraiel Konam Rilway bridge to Melparai. There may be two bridges at Eraniel in Eraniel Konam connecting Eraniel- Thuckalay Road as well as in Valliaru near to Marthandeswaram Temple.

The double line will help Railways to operate more trains to Nagercoil, Madurai, Chennai, Bengaluru as well as to Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam , Cochin, Mumbai via Eraniel Railway Station

குமரி மாவட்டத்தில் பிரசித்திபெற்ற சிவஸ்தலன்களில் ஒன்றாக திகழ்கிறது அருள்மிகு மார்த்தாண்டேஸ்வரம் மகாதேவர் திருக்கோவில். இத்திருக்கோயில் மார்தாண்டவர்மா மஹாராஜாவால் கட்டபட்டு சுமார் 800 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேலாக உள்ளது என தேவிபிரசனத்தில் தெரிவிக்கபட்டது.

கோவில் மூலவர் கோபுர சிலைகள் சிதலமடைந்து உள்ளதால் கும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்தவும், உபதேவைகளான விநாயகர், நாகராஜா, வன சாஸ்தா கோவில்களையும் புனரமைகவும் தேவ பிரசனத்தில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டு, இந்து அறநிலையத்துறையின் அனுமதி பெற்று திருப்பணிகள் நடைபெற்று வருகிறது. மேலும் சிலபணிகள் செய்யவேண்டியும் உள்ளது. இந்நிலையில் குமரிமாவட்ட அறநிலையத்துறை தந்திரி அவர்கள் 2017 ம் வருடம் ஜூன் மாதம் 25ம் நாள் (1193 ஆணி 11) ஞாயிற்றுகிழமை புனர்பூசம் நட்சத்திரத்தில் அஷ்டப்பந்தன மகாகும்பாபிஷேகம் நடத்த சார்த்து தந்துள்ளார்கள்.

அரநிலயதுறையின் அனுமதி பெற்றும் பக்தர்கள் ஆதரவோடும் மேற்படி வைபவத்தை நடத்த தீர்மானித்துள்ளோம். ஆகவே குறிப்பிட்ட கால அளவு குறைவாக உள்ளதால் செய்ய வேண்டிய வேலைகளை விரைந்து முடிக்க வேண்டிய கட்டாயத்தில் உள்ளோம். எனவே பக்தர்கள் அனைவரும் முழு ஒத்த்துழைப்பும் பொருள் உதவியும் தந்து இவ்விழாவினை சிறப்பித்து இறையருள் பெற அன்புடன் வேண்டுகிறோம்.

The Eraniel Palace is situated in Eraniel. This place is about 14km from Nagercoil, 28km from Kanyakumari, 6 km from Padmanabhapuram and 8km from Colachel. It is also called as Thai Kottaram. Chera Empire was divided into 18 kingdoms such as Venadu, Kuttam, Karkanadu, Aruvavadathalai nadu, Aruvanadu etc. Of these Venadu kingdom was the forerunner to the modern kingdom of Travancore. In the absence of clear records, one set claim that the Eraniel Palace was constructed during the reign of Vanchi Marthandavarma , while other claim that it was constructed during the reign of Cheraman Perumal - one of the 63 saivite saints. Legend says that Cheraman Perumal , who vanished from the Eraniel Palace , was being taken to Heaven in his Physical body. It is said that before ascending to the throne, the kings of Venad and Travancore state visit Eraniel Palace and conduct rituals honouring Royal Sword.

Eraniel Palace which spreads over slightly more than 3.5 acres, now only consists of three identifiable parts.

2.Horse-shaped Bungalow or Kuthira malika

3.Spring Pavilion or Vasantha Mandapam
