Kavadi kattu Function for 2017 in Eraniel , Kanyakumari District is going to be held on March 01.

Kavadi Attam (காவடி ஆட்டம்) Burden Dance is a ceremonial sacrifice and offering practiced by devotees during the worship of Lord Murugan. In the southern part of India, Tamilnadu  is a well know worship place for Lord Murugan. Here only Lord Muruga's Six Abodes known as Arupadi Veedu. Of them Thiruchendur is a famous temple at Thoothukudi District near to the shore.

Devotees from various place come here. But from the southern part of India , Kanyakumari district people carry Kavadi for Maasi thiruvila.

When the flag hosted at Thiruchendur for Maasi thiruvila, here devotees from Eraniel, Thingalnagar, colachel, Manavalakurichi, Thiruvananthapuram and there surrounding areas will conduct the Kavadi Kettu function. 

This year this function is going to be held on March 1st 2017. 

So all are welcome to this fest and get the blessing of Lord Murugan...

Maha Shivarathri Festival at Marthandeswarar Temple Eraniel

Eraniel Marthandeswarar temple  is a old temple built by king ruled the venad and its a famous temple around this area. Every year the people of Mahadewar trust organize the Shivaratri function. on that day the temple will decorated with lights and have special pooja. Maha Shivaratri is a festival dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Shivaratri is celebrated on the 6th night of the dark Phalgun (Feb or March) every year.On the auspicious day, devotees observe fast and keep vigil all night. Mahashivaratri marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the ′Tandava′. Maha Shivaratri festival is also widely known as 'Shivaratri'. It means the 'Great Night of Shiva'. This auspicious day is believed to be the day of convergence of divine powers of Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti. It is believed that on this day the planetary position in universe evokes the spiritual energies very easily. Religious penances are carried out to gain boons through the practice of medication and yoga. People worships lord Shiva whole day and chants "Om Namah Shiva".

Ganesh Chaturthi wishes known as Vinayaka Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is one of the important Hindu festivals celebrated throughout India with a great devotion. This day is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-headed son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Lord Ganesh is the symbol of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune.

There are two different versions about Ganesha's birth. One has it that Goddess Parvati created Ganesha out of dirt off her body while having a bath and set him to guard her door while she finishes her bath. Shiva who has gone out, returned at that time, but as Ganesha didn't know of him, stopped him from entering. An angry Shiva severed the head of Ganesha after a combat between the two. Parvati was enraged and Shiva promised Ganesha will live again. The devas who went in search of a head facing north of a dead person could manage only the head of an elephant. Shiva fixed the elephant's head on the child and brought him back to life.

The other legend has it that Ganesha was created by Shiva and Parvati on request of the Devas, to be a vighnakartaa (obstacle-creator) in the path of rakshasas (demonic beings), and a vighnahartaa (obstacle-averter) to help the Devas and this known as Vinayagar Chaturthi.

Kuzhithurai Vavubali Exhibition (Vavubali Porulkatchi) 2016

Vavu Bali means (Shradham for the ancestors ) ceremony held during every year of Aadi Tamil month
(malayalam Month Karkidakam). On this day people from various part of Kanyakumari District came here for Vavubali in Thamirabarani river. In 1900s Vavubali Exhibition was started by Sri.T.C.Keasava Pillai and now it was conducted by Kuzhithurai Town Municipality.

In early days this was conducted for 10 days and end the Exhibition by Aadi Tuesday with prizes for best  Exhibition& stall. Due this religious festival , the collector announced this day as Local holiday for Kanyakumari District. From the last year this exhibition was extended for 20 days. This exhibition is specially for garden needs such as plants, seeds etc.

Avvaiyar Amman Temple Thalakudy - Kanyakumari District

Avvaiyar Amman Temple is once of the famous temple in Kanyakumari District and its famous for Aadi festival.  This temple is situated in Thalakudy, 14km from Nagercoil and 30km from Kanyakumari.

Every year of Tamil month Aadi, the festival begin here. In earlier days women's only are the devotees here and they will do different types of Kolukattai. People from various places come here at  this month.

Sword Giving Fuction and God Idols Send off

God idols Send off

God idol from #Sucindram , #Kumarakovil and #Padmanapaburam travelling to #Trivandram for the Navarathri Function. For this function people from various places around Thuckalay , MLA and Governor from Trivandrum Rajya Bhavan and District Collector also participated.

There the Kerala State police give a beautiful route marching and  protection along with the Tamilnadu police.  The Kerala State Governor  Sathasivam hand over the sword to the Tamil Nadu Devaswom Commissioner from the Padmanapaburam Palace. After that the God idols travelled to #Keralapuram Temple. From there the God idol will go to #Trivandrum via #Kuzhiturai, #Parasala.
